Blue Lotus Counseling
F.A.Q.
Welcome to the Jamesa’s FAQ page. Here, you’ll find answers to common questions about my counseling practice, approach, and how we work together. If your question isn’t listed here, feel free to reach out directly—I’m happy to answer anything that will help you feel prepared and comfortable to start.

1. What approach do you use in counseling?
I use a culturally competent, somatic, and EMDR-informed approach. This means we focus not just on thoughts and behaviors but also on how your body and nervous system store experiences. I work in a collaborative, non-hierarchical way, so you are an active participant in your own healing and growth.
2. Do you offer family or couples counseling?
Currently, I focus on individual counseling and workplace transformation coaching. My work is centered on helping clients navigate personal growth, trauma healing, and professional environments. Family or couples counseling is not part of my practice.
3. How do I know if counseling is right for me?
Counseling can help anyone seeking support in processing emotions, healing from past experiences, or improving their relationships and workplace dynamics. If you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or curious about personal growth, counseling could be a beneficial space for you.
4. How do sessions work?
Sessions are typically 50 minutes and can be scheduled weekly or bi-weekly depending on your goals. We can meet virtually or in person (if available). Each session is tailored to your needs, whether that involves EMDR work, somatic exploration, or reflective discussion about workplace and personal dynamics.
5. What can I expect from EMDR therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a research-supported method for healing trauma and reducing emotional distress. We will work together to safely process past experiences, identify triggers, and develop coping strategies. Your comfort and safety are prioritized throughout the process.
6. How do I get started?
The first step is to schedule an initial consultation, where we’ll discuss your goals, explore what you’re experiencing, and determine how my approach can best support you. From there, we’ll collaboratively design a plan that fits your needs.
7. Is my information confidential?
Yes. All sessions are confidential within the limits of the law. This includes anything shared during counseling or coaching sessions. Your privacy and trust are central to the work we do together.
8. How much do sessions cost, and does insurance cover them?
Each session is $120. I do not bill insurance directly, but you can submit receipts to your insurance provider for reimbursement if your plan allows it. I’m happy to provide any necessary documentation to support your claims.
9. Are you licensed and credentialed?
Yes. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in South Carolina, a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), and a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) as well as the EMDR Association. These credentials reflect my commitment to professional standards, ongoing training, and ethical practice.
