Hello

I’m so glad you’re here. This page is a chance for you to get to know a bit more about me—the heart behind the work I do.  Keep reading to learn more about my story and how I support individuals through counseling.

My Story

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) · Nationally Certified Counselor

Hi, I’m Jamesa — a licensed professional counselor with over 20 years of experience supporting people through life’s transitions with clarity, compassion, and confidence. I opened Blue Lotus Counseling back in 2015 to help people with the challenges of living what Mary Oliver calls this "one wild and precious life."

My work has evolved into what I call slow healing—a compassionate, intentional process that honors your pace, your story, and your whole self (including your nervous system). Healing isn’t a race or a checklist; it’s a rhythm that unfolds when you feel safe enough to lean into your experience.

Professionally, I bring depth and expertise to every session. I am a licensed professional counselor and a nationally certified counselor. I’m trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and trauma-informed approaches. But above all, my work is grounded in presence, relationship, and the belief that healing is a collaborative journey.

I’m deeply inspired by Hafiz’s words: “Fear is the cheapest room in the house. I would like to see you living in better conditions.” This reminds me that healing is about moving beyond fear’s cramped quarters and making space for courage, curiosity, and belonging.

Outside of 1:1 work, I co-host the Ben and Jamesa Podcast with my husband — a show in the top 5% of podcasts worldwide (listen here)— where we dive into real conversations about connection, growth, and the messy beauty of being human. We also provide organizational consulting through www.benandjamesa.com.

I’ve spent a couple of years living abroad with my family, letting travel teach me new ways of seeing and connecting with the world. When I’m not supporting clients, you’ll usually find me wandering through quiet woods or along hidden beaches, or tasting a new food for the first time—simple joys that keep me grounded, curious, and present. These experiences shape how I show up as a therapist: open, attentive, and always learning.

I’m thoughtful, gentle, and deeply loving—and I bring that same care into my work. At my core, I believe in freedom: freedom from fear, from smallness, and from old stories that no longer serve you. I’m here to help you find your footing, your rhythm, and your most expansive self
